A serious incident with a miraculous and happy ending began in 1992 when Geoff Luttrell, age 22, was diagnosed with Stage IV Angio-Sarcoma at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He owes his life to the expert care of Dr. M.A. Burgess and the staff of MD Anderson. He was given a 10% chance to live 6 months. None of this story would have been unfolding in a positive manner had it not been for his health insurance policy. This policy was secured with 2 days remaining in a window of eligibility, and he was met with strong resistance from the insurance company who initially attempted to dishonor their acceptance policy.
Geoff has lived every day to the fullest since his recovery. He is active in the UCSF Hospital Cancer Support Groups and commutes to Indianapolis where he life-coaches with Beyond Your Best He works hard daily to make a difference in people's lives. Geoff has been an avid cyclist for many years, which may have contributed to his continued good health.
Recently, he has had a even higher calling -- a voice that has pulled him toward a larger purpose and vision. Geoff Luttrell will ride his bicycle from his home in San Francisco, California, on September 14th, all the way to Houston, Texas, to the steps of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, arriving on October 3rd.
Geoff's solo 1900-mile bicycle ride will be a display of his personal commitment, his heart-felt statement, to the need of financial support experienced by many cancer patients. His arrival will coincide with the Lance Armstrong Foundation which has done incredible things in the world of Cancer research funding. Geoff's ride will compliment this event perfectly by bringing even stronger focus to empowering patients to receive the resulting treatments necessary for their survival.
The benefit of your contribution will enable uninsured patients to gain access to the finest health care available. Because we all deserve it, and we all deserve to live "Above and Beyond."
